The day after this woman kicks her awful husband out of the house, the pregnant stray cat she has been feeding comes inside to get petted for the first time: 'He told me I wasn't allowed to bring [her] in'

Cats choose their people. Somehow, they have a sense for who is going to be good to them. Cats also know who wouldn't be good for them. When people say that you should trust your cat's opinion about the potential partners that you bring home, they are right. Cats know. Today's story is just proof of that. 

The pregnant cat in this story was not just choosing a human for herself. She had an extra layer of responsibility because she is also choosing a human for her kittens. And she chose. This cat momma was carefully getting close to a woman who has been feeding her for months. But for months, the "man" of the house did not allow his wife to bring this cat in. Not that the cat momma was trying to get in. See, she knew that this man was bad news. She chose the wife as her human, not the husband, and she waited. She waited until the wife has finally had enough of the guy and tossed him out of the house. Then and only then did she come into the house to be petted for the first time.

    My husband was pretty ab ive and wouldn't let me break up with him for months. I ended up "cheating" and he broke things off himself. Then I kicked him out and the day after he gets all his stuff out of my house, the pregnant stray I had been feeding comes up to me to get pets for the first time ever.

    I put my other cats in the bedroom and left the outside door open until she came in on her own. Now she's got the whole former office room to herself while I try to get in contact with a shelter to help out. She seems much happier and I'm feeling better as well. I'm calling her Tilly, short for Mathilda.

  • It is like the cat knew that this man was bad too. It's like she knew that being pregnant around a man like that would not be good for any female, including her. But she loved this woman, and she waited and waited, and finally, she was able to go and meet her human.

    shonkle What do you mean you ending up "cheating"? Regardless if he was abusing or not if you cheated that's still bad. It's a shame you couldn't actually end it without cheating. Then he breaks it off with you because you cheated and then you "kick him out”. Idk this post seems kind of sus...

    spicey Todd I'm guessing she either made it look like she was cheating to force him to want to break up with her or he came to that conclusion on his own somehow. Either way, putting the word cheating in quotations implies that she didnt actually cheat.

    CeeCeeDude OP Seems quite a few people are getting hung up on the "cheating" part. Just because he insisted we weren't separated doesn't mean I didn't break up with him. We weren't even sleeping in the same bed. I went on a date, and the guy kissed me after. Soon to be ex husband decided that was cheating and flipped his lid. You can't cheat on someone you've already broken up with.

    shinyidolomantis My ex husband thought I was ridiculous for wanting to feed my cats half a can of wet food each twice a day (two cats). He did the math and bitched about how much an extra can each day would cost. But he literally bought himself a brand new car without even mentioning it to me and tons of other high value purchases. I worked full time too, too so it's not like I was spending "his" money.

    My current boyfriend and I have 5 and take care of a colony of homeless/feral cats together. And my cats LOVE him, they were not fond of my ex. I will never trust another romantic partner that my cats don't like. I can open as many cans of cat food each day as needed with zero complaints. I wish I would have noticed all the little red flags a lot sooner instead of wasting my time.

  • This is right. You may have exchanged a husband for this cat, but it was definitely a good deal. You're about to be a momma to a whole bunch of kittens, and difficult as this breakup must be/have been, there is no way to not be smiling around a bunch of kittens.
